Asian Tech Press (Apr. 8) -- About 2,000 DJI drones have been fighting in the skies over Ukraine, according to drone news outlet DroneXL.
DroneXL reported on April 1 that the Ukrainian army bought 2,372 quadcopters and 11 military drones for $6.8 million.
The $6.8 million purchase includes new DJI Mavic 3 unmanned aerial vehicles, funded by the Come Back Alive fund, a Ukrainian non-governmental organization that emerged to help the Ukrainian military during the War in Donbas.
The media outlet also said that Mykhailo Fedorov, Ukraine's vice prime minister and minister of digital transformation, revealed that the more than 2,000 DJI drones, will be used to assist in repelling Russian forces.
The DJI drone is in fact a consumer-grade civilian drone and does not meet military specifications.
But the DJI Mavic 3 comes with a special Explorer mode that allows the craft to zoom in on the lens up to 28 times.
Its powerful 28x hybrid zoom functionality can be used to locate Russian troops and guide mortar attacks, making the DJI Mavic 3 the perfect spy drone.
And DJI's AeroScope drone detection platform can receive broadcast signals from DJI drones in different formats to monitor drones flying in specific areas.
The Mavic 3's 28x hybrid zoom functionality and DJI AeroScope played a role in the Russia-Ukraine battle.
