Asia Tech Wire (Sep 24) -- The U.S. Department of Justice plans to charge Visa with allegedly illegally monopolizing the U.S. debit card market, Bloomberg said, citing people familiar with the matter.
The regulator is due to file a lawsuit against Visa as soon as Tuesday, the report said.
The DOJ is ready to accuse Visa of taking steps to prevent competitors from challenging its dominance in the debit card market.
The allegations also include Visa entering into exclusivity agreements that hinder the expansion of competing networks and thwart the efforts of technology companies to enter the market.
