Asia Tech Wire (July 22) -- TSMC seeks to acquire a plant of Taiwan-based panel maker Innolux Corp. at a price higher than that of Micron Technology, according to Economic Daily News.

The report said that TSMC recently sent staff to investigate Innolux's 5.5-generation LCD panel plant in Tainan, hoping to work with Innolux to expand its advanced packaging layout.

Earlier there were industry rumors that Micron intends to NT$18 billion (US$560 million) to buy the Tainan plant Innolux closed last year.

And this time there was news that, compared with Micron, TSMC offered quite attractive conditions to Innolux.

Innolux and TSMC both said they do not comment on market rumors.

However, Innolux may make a decision as soon as this week on TSMC and Micron's bid for its Tainan plant.
