Asian Tech Press (Mar. 1) -- Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corp said it will suspend domestic plant operations on Tuesday after a suspected cyber attack that crippled its parts supply system.

Toyota Motor said Monday that it decided to temporarily shut down 28 production lines at 14 of its factories in Japan due to a problem with one of its suppliers' computer systems. According to analysis, the reason may be some cyber attack on its domestic supplier, Kojima Industries Corp, which is engaged in manufacturing resin parts, etc.

Currently, Toyota is not sure when it will be able to resume production, and Tuesday's shutdown will affect the production of about 13,000 vehicles, equivalent to 4 to 5% of the automaker's monthly production in Japan.

The shutdown has added to Toyota's woes, whose production have already been hit by a global shortage of semiconductors, with Japanese plants accounting for about a third of its annual production.
