Asian Tech Press (Nov 23) -- Tesla Inc. reportedly will continue to expand its Shanghai superfactory by starting the third phase of the plant construction.

Previously there were market rumors that Tesla's Shanghai plant will start its third phase of construction, and that "some supply chain [companies] are going to Lingang to build factories to support the third phase."

Several sources in Tesla's supply chain and those with knowledge of the matter said on Thursday that they had "not heard of such news," according to Chinese media outlet Cailianshe.

As its first overseas factory, Tesla began construction of the Gigafactory Shangha in January 2019, and officially started Model 3 production at the facility in October of that year.

And Tesla began expanding its Shanghai factory in early 2020 with the construction of the second phase of the project, and subsequently started production of the Model Y here.
