Asian Tech Press (Dec 29) -- Electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe has announced that deliveries of electric pickup trucks and SUV models with high-capacity power cells will be delayed until 2023.
Scaringe said the vast majority of the roughly 71,000 orders for the R1T pickup truck and R1S SUV electric vehicles currently in the U.S. and Canada are for the small-capacity battery version, which ranges 314 miles on a single charge.
Rivian has decided to prioritize the production of the "Adventure Package" version with the "Large" battery pack next year to satisfy the largest number of pre-orders.
Following the news, Rivian's shares fell, closing down 3.9 percent at $102.87.
