Asian Tech Press (Apr. 25) -- The Taliban banned the short video app TikTok and blockbuster video game PUBG, accusing them of "misleading" Afghan youth.

Taliban authorities have ordered a ban on TikTok and PUBG, insisting they are leading Afghan youth "astray".

The group, which holds power in Afghanistan, said it would also ban television channels from broadcasting what it considers "immoral material."

It follows recent bans on music, movies and television soap operas.

Taliban spokesman Inamullah Samangani said the latest ban was necessary to "prevent the younger generation from being misled."

The ban was announced on Thursday, but it is unclear when it will take effect and how long it will last.

This is the first time the group has banned an app since it came to power last August.

"PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds" (PUBG) is a player versus player shooter game developed by South Korean game developer Krafton Inc.

Short video platform TikTok, is the world's most popular non-gaming app created by Chinese technology company ByteDance Ltd.
