Asian Tech Press (SEP 02) -- South Korea was the first country worldwide to launch commercial 5G services, and 5G has been commercially available in the country for more than two years.
The coverage of South Korea's commercial 5G network is still expanding, and 5G users are still in the process of increasing. Data from South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT reports that their commercial 5G network has covered 85 cities since the launch of commercial 5G services in 2019.
In terms of the size of 5G subscribers, data from South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT shows that the country had reached 17.08 million 5G subscribers alone by the end of July, adding 616,000 in the month.
The number of 5G subscribers continues to increase, and the proportion of 5G subscribers among mobile communication subscribers in Korea is also rising. By the end of July, there were 71.71 million mobile communication subscribers in Korea, and the proportion of 5G, has increased to about 24%.
With the launch of more 5G smartphones and the expansion of 5G network coverage, 5G subscribers in Korea will also continue to increase. The 5G subscriber size growth rate is expected to accelerate by the end of this year, driven by new 5G smartphone launches in the second half of the year.
