Samsung to build a $17 billion chip factory in Tyler, Texas
Nov.23,2021

Asian Tech Press (Nov 23) -- Samsung has selected Tyler, Texas, USA, as the site of a planned $10 billion-plus chip manufacturing plant that is expected to serve the company's contract manufacturing business.

The Wall Street Journal, citing people familiar with the matter, reported that Samsung will spend about $17 billion to build the plant as part of the $205 billion in funding the company is earmarking for investment over the next three years.

Documents submitted to the U.S. National Planning Agency propose that the plant will create about 1,800 jobs when chip production begins in 2024. The report said it is unclear whether construction work is included in that figure.

Taylor reportedly offers huge tax incentives to influence Samsung's decision, including a property tax break of about 92.5 percent for the first ten years. Those write-offs will gradually decrease over the next few decades.
