Asia Tech Wire (Aug 8) -- South Korea's Samsung Display will develop and supply OLED on Silicon (OLEDoS) for a Microsoft MR device, according to TheElec.

Wednesday's report said that Samsung Display and Microsoft Corp. signed a new cooperation agreement.

Under the agreement, the South Korean panel maker will develop and supply OLEDoS for a mixed reality (MR) device for Microsoft in the hundreds of thousands of units.

Microsoft is developing the MR device for use in games and multimedia content like movies rather than the metaverse.

The report said that Microsoft will introduce the MR device only after finalizing the specification of the OLEDoS, which means its commercial launch will be in 2026 at the earliest.
