S. Korean govt advises automakers to disclose information on EV batteries
Aug.13,2024

Asia Tech Wire (Aug 13) -- The South Korean government decided on Tuesday to recommend that automakers voluntarily disclose information on the power batteries of their electric vehicles sold in the market.

Generally, automakers release information on the size, weight, maximum power, power consumption rate, and battery capacity of new electric vehicles when they launch them in South Korea, without disclosing specific information on these battery products and their manufacturers.

But with the recent rash of electric car fires in South Korea causing anxiety among car owners, automakers such as Hyundai, Kia and Mercedes-Benz have taken the initiative to publicize the brands of batteries installed in their electric cars.

In addition, the South Korean government will announce comprehensive measures on electric vehicle safety next month.
