Asia Tech Wire (Sep 10) -- The Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) has launched an investigation into Mercedes-Benz's South Korean subsidiary, an official from the agency said Tuesday.

However, the Korean official did not provide further details on the probe.

In August, a fire broke out in a Mercedes-Benz electric car in the South Korean city of Incheon, destroying or damaging about 140 vehicles.

The accident shook South Korea, and recently the Korean government required car companies to disclose information about electric car batteries on a mandatory basis.
