Asia Tech Wire (Sep 27) -- Taiwan's Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp. (PSMC) announced Thursday that it has signed a definitive agreement with India's Tata Electronics in New Delhi to collaborate on a 12-inch chip plant.
Under the agreement, PSMC will assist Tata Electronics with the construction of India's first 12-inch wafer fab in Dholera, Gujarat, as well as the transfer of mature process technology and the training of Indian employees.
The $11 billion 12-inch fab, with a capacity of 50,000 wafers per month, is due to create more than 20,000 high-tech jobs in the region.
The facility will produce PMICs, DDIs, MCUs and other semiconductors to meet the growing demand in markets such as AI, automotive, computing, storage and wireless communications.
