New cars to be equipped with backup cameras in Japan since May 2024

Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) announced on June 9 the revised standards for cars obliged to install backup cameras that can confirm the situation behind them, etc.

The standard will be applied to new cars launched in Japan after May 2021, and will be extended to all new cars after May 2024, including those that have been launched before.
