Mitsubishi Motors to use Nissan-made platform for domestic models
Sep.14,2021

Asian Tech Press (SEP 14) -- Mitsubishi Motors plans to stop developing vehicle platforms for the Japanese market and instead use Nissan's vehicle bases from around 2026 and will shift its focus to the development of electric vehicles and other technologies, according to Nikkei.

Starting in 2026, Mitsubishi will develop key components in cooperation with Nissan, and it is the first Japanese automaker to abandon platform development in its home market.

Mitsubishi has been losing money for the past two fiscal years. The company discontinued some of its unprofitable models, including a sedan discontinued in 2016 and the Pajero, discontinued in July this year.

Southeast Asia is the core market of Mitsubishi Motors. It will continue to develop two own platforms for this region. In addition, Mitsubishi Motors will continue to polish the interior, exterior, and drive equipment for the Japanese market.
