Microsoft could face EU antitrust charges over Teams

Asia Tech Wire (May 13) -- U.S. tech giant Microsoft could face EU antitrust charges over Teams, according to the Financial Times.

The European Commission is stepping up its efforts to bring formal charges against Microsoft over concerns that it is undercutting rivals to its video conference app Teams and limiting competition in the sector, the report said, citing multiple people familiar with the matter.

Last month, Microsoft made concessions to avoid regulatory action, including offering to spin off Teams from other software such as Office in Europe and globally.

EU officials, however, remain concerned that Microsoft is not doing enough to achieve market fairness, the people said.
