Asia Tech Wire (June 20) -- U.S. chipmaker Micron Technology is considering producing high-bandwidth memory (HBM) in Malaysia, according to Nikkei.
Citing people familiar with the matter, the report said Micron is expanding its HMB-related research and development facilities at its headquarters in Boise, Idaho, including production and verification lines.
The company is also considering building HBM production capacity in Malaysia to capture more demand from the AI boom, they said.
According to Lam Research, HBM is a critical component for AI in performance and reducing power consumption in memory chips.
