Hyundai to make all-electric IONIQ 5 in Indonesia plant

Asian Tech Press (Mar. 16) -- South Korea's largest car manufacturer Hyundai Motor Group announced that it will produce its all-electric IONIQ 5 SUV at a new plant in Indonesia.

The new plant, Hyundai's first manufacturing plant in Southeast Asia, is located in Deltamas industrial complex near Cikarang, Indonesia, 40 kilometers east of the capital city of Jakarta.

Hyundai inaugurated the plant on Wednesday, and the ceremony was attended by local government officials, including Indonesian President Joko Widodo, as well as Korean Ambassador to Indonesia Park Tae-sung and Hyundai Motor Chairman Euisun Chung.

In an announcement, Hyundai noted that the new plant, with an annual production capacity of up to 250,000 units per year, will be the "first facility to produce battery electric vehicle (BEV) in Southeast Asia beginning with production of IONIQ 5."

"I hope that this IONIQ 5 from Hyundai will become an important milestone in the development of Indonesia's electric vehicle ecosystem, and to further accelerate the electric car ecosystem that is more advance," said Joko Widodo.
