Asia Tech Wire (July 22) -- Google and South Korea's Samsung Electronics are under EU antitrust investigation for AI cooperation.

Samsung Electronics unveiled its latest foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6, at its Galaxy Unpacked event in Paris earlier this month.

Like the previous Galaxy S24 series of phones, the two phones come with Google's Gemini app pre-installed.

However, the partnership has caught the attention of the European Commission's antitrust regulators.

The EU's antitrust regulator sent an eight-page questionnaire to industry participants last week on whether Google's multi-year generative AI deal with Samsung Electronics affects the installation of other AI chatbots on Samsung smartphones.

Once finding any anticompetitive behavior, EU antitrust regulator may file lawsuits against Samsung and Google.
