German telecom operators to replace 5G Equipment from Huawei, ZTE in 5 years
Jul.11,2024

Asia Tech Wire (July 11) -- The German government has reached an agreement with the country's major telecoms operators to replace equipment from Huawei and ZTE (0763.HK) in their already-built 5G systems in phases over the next 5 years, according to German media reports.

The deal gives network operators Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone, and Telefonica Germany more time to replace key components.

Under the preliminary agreement on safety considerations, the telecoms operators will first phase out Huawei and ZTE equipment in 5G data centers, which is due to end in 2026.

And in the second phase, by 2029, they completely remove transmission equipment from Huawei and ZTE in telecom towers.
