May.21,2024

Asia Tech Wire (May 21) -- Chinese tech company Didi announced Tuesday that it has launched a taxi-hailing service in Hong Kong, including cab booking and cross-border car service.

The service offers users a choice between "Didi-picked cabs", which charge at chartered price, and "regular cabs", which charge at taxi meter rates.

Didi said it supports both cash and e-payment, and has also launched a "call service" to make it easier for users to book cabs for elderly people or clients.

Didi also provides "cross-border car" services connecting Hong Kong with five cities in mainland China, namely Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Dongguan, Huizhou and Zhuhai.

The ride-hailing giant has been aggressively expanding its overseas offerings in recent years, with revenue from its international business rising 33.3% year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2023 to 2.22 billion yuan.

Didi Chairman and CEO Will Wei Cheng has decided to promote Jean Qing Liu to permanent partner of the company, who will no longer be a director or president of the company, and the company will no longer have a president in the future, according to an internal letter on Sunday.
