Asia Tech Wire (Sep 20) -- U.S. network equipment giant Cisco Systems Inc. has recently begun layoffs in China after announcing a global layoff of 7% in August.

According to Chinese media reports, several Cisco Dalian employees broke the news that they had officially received layoff notices on September 18th.

The company offers compensation programs including two options, one is the employees are now leaving the company to get "N + 7" compensation; the second is that they delayed two months to leave the company to get "N + 5" compensation.

The report cited people familiar with the matter as saying that the layoffs involve nearly 300 Cisco Dalian employees, all of whom are involved in Japanese and Korean language programs, as well as TAC positions.

One of the people familiar with the matter said that not all of Cisco's non-regular employees were laid off this time, "but it's hard to say in the future."

These people revealed that in the future, most of Cisco's overall business may be transferred to India or Japan. This also means that in addition to Dalian Cisco, Cisco will subsequently cut staff in the business sector in other parts of China.
