(Asian Tech Press) Cheng Li, the chief technology officer of Alibaba Group, said Thursday that the company plans to develop self-driving trucks with logistics subsidiary Cainiao.

At the 2021 Global Smart Logistics Summit, chief technology officer of Alibaba and Cainiao revealed that Alibaba's research division DAMO Academy and Cainiao have launched defining and researching unmanned logistics trucks for the open road.

Cheng said, "Driverless technology is becoming a core one in the digital era, and we believe that future full-chain self-driving logistics delivery can also be productized and practicalized, becoming an important production tool for digital logistics."

The Chief Technology Officer also stated that in the coming year, Cainiao will introduce 1,000 autonomous logistics vehicles, Xiaomanlv, into campuses and communities around China.
