US government wants to spend $400 million to buy Tesla pickup trucks, but lawmakers question it
On March 3rd local time, U.S. Democratic Senator Blumenthal asked U.S. Secretary of State Rubio to answer questions about plans to spend $400 million to buy armored versions of Tesla Cybertrucks to transport diplomats. The U.S. State Department said the contract was planned during the Biden administration and the Trump administration canceled it. Blumenthal said that some people have raised questions about whether the Trump administration forged and traced government documents after strong public opposition to make the idea of spending $400 million of taxpayers' money to buy Tesla Cybertruck appear to have originated from the previous administration. The Trump administration not only recognizes that there is a huge conflict of interest in Musk's dual position, but is also taking active steps to cover up the fact that Musk's position benefits his company. According to documents previously released by the U.S. Federal Election Commission, Tesla CEO Elon Musk spent more than $290 million in the 2024 U.S. election.
