Google drops DEI goals to comply with Trump's new policies
Google parent Alphabet announced it would abandon its diversity goals, becoming the latest tech giant to change its hiring and promotion practices since Trump was elected president. In its annual report released on Wednesday, Alphabet removed language from previous years that said, "We are committed to incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) into everything we do and to cultivating a workforce that is representative of the users we serve." The company's chief people officer, Fiona Cicconi, told employees in a memo: "Because we are a federal contractor, our team is also evaluating changes needed to our projects to comply with recent court decisions and U.S. executive orders on this topic."
