U.S. FAA calls for inspections of Boeing 787 Dreamliner jets

Asia Tech Wire (Aug 20) -- The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration said Monday it will require inspections of Boeing 787 Dreamliner jets.

In March, a 787 Dreamliner operated by LATAM Airlines suddenly dove in midair, injuring more than 50 passengers.

The FAA said the apparent cause of the dive was an accidental movement of the captain's seat, which caused the autopilot to disconnect.

The U.S. regulator said it had received five reports of similar problems with the captain's and co-pilot's seats on 787s, the most recent in June, and two more remain under investigation.
