Asia Tech Wire (Sep 24) -- Boeing offered a 30% pay raise to its labor union Monday in hopes of ending a 10-day strike by Seattle factory workers.
The International Association of Machinists (IAM) District 751, which represents about 33,000 Boeing workers in the Pacific Northwest, went on strike on September 13th.
The 30% general wage increase is higher than Boeing's previous offer of 25%.
Boeing said in a statement that the new proposal includes a 30% pay increase over four years, the approval of a signing bonus doubling to $6,000, and the reinstatement of the Aerospace Machinists Performance Program (AMPP) bonus.
However, the IAM said Boeing did not discuss the new offer with it before sending it, calling the move "a blatant show of disrespect to you - our members - and the bargaining process."
The union said it will not hold a vote of its membership on the proposal before Boeing's deadline - 11:59 p.m. PT on Friday, September 27, 2024.
