TrendForce: LCD monitor panel shipments decreased by 8.6% in Q1 due to IC shortage
Jun.1,2021

TrendForce research points out that IT product demand has not fallen since the second quarter of last year, benefiting from the epidemic-derived stay-at-home economic effect.

However, due to the fade-out of panel supply by Samsung Display in 2021 and the shortage of upstream IC and other components, the LCD monitor panel shipments in the first quarter of 2021 were 39.9 million, a quarterly decrease of 8.6%.

TrendForce analyzes that the LCD monitor panel shipment performance in the first half of this year is limited by two significant pressures.

First, Samsung Display will withdraw from the supply of LCD panels after completing the target of 1.2 million pieces shipped in the first half of this year, compared to the annual shipment of 19.3 million pieces in 2020, the annual decline of up to 93.8%.

Secondly, upstream materials such as IC and Timing Controller (TCON) are in short supply due to tight semiconductor production capacity, which depresses panel production performance and causes the panel to be a short supply.

In addition, for the panel factory, compared to TV and notebook panels, the profit of the LCD monitor panel is lower, and the capacity arrangement is weaker.
