Asian Tech Press (Dec 03) -- Toyota says it will achieve zero CO2 emissions from new cars sold in Western Europe by 2035, Nikkei reports.
Toyota will replace all cars sold with pure electric vehicles (EV) or fuel cell vehicles (FCV). Toyota will respond to the European Union's (EU) proposal to require new vehicles in the region to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2035.
Toyota's previous goal in Western Europe was to achieve 40% of new vehicles sold by 2030, including pure electric vehicles, which do not emit carbon dioxide.
This is the first time that Toyota has explicitly announced that it will change all new vehicles sold in a specific region to zero-emission vehicles. Toyota's vehicle sales in Europe are equivalent to 10% of the world's total.
