According to Electrek, Tesla has officially confirmed that the launch of the Cybertruck electric pickup truck has been delayed until 2022.
Tesla has received more than 1 million pre-orders for Cybertruck, which was scheduled to go on sale in late 2021, but it was confirmed today by the company that Cybertruck will not be delivered this year.
Tesla has updated their Cybertruck order page, which states that buyers will be able to complete their configurations in 2022. This delay is likely due to the limited availability of Tesla's 4680 battery.
During Tesla's recent earnings call, CEO Elon Musk said that if the company manufactures Cybertrucks now, it would cost about $1 million per truck to build.
Tesla recently told investors that they will begin production of the Cybertruck after establishing Model Y production at a new facility in Austin, to which Musk said, "Industrialization of the Cybertruck is also progressing and is currently planned to follow Model Y production in Austin."
Tesla has also previously said that its Semi truck project will also be delayed until 2022 due to limited battery supply and global supply chain challenges.
