Airbus announced today that the second final assembly line for the A320 Family aircraft at its Tianjin assembly plant has officially opened. Preparations for the first aircraft are underway, and the new facility is expected to be fully operational in early 2026. This advanced production line incorporates Airbus' latest technologies and processes, producing aircraft to the company's highest global standards. Furthermore, the new facility utilizes renewable electricity, recycled water, and geothermal energy to support its sustainability roadmap and reduce its environmental footprint. With the addition of this new line, Airbus expects to double its production capacity in China and establish a global network of 10 final assembly lines: four in Hamburg, Germany; two in Toulouse, France; two in Mobile, USA; and two in Tianjin, China. Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury stated that the addition of this second line to Airbus' global production system will provide the company with the necessary flexibility and capacity to achieve its target of producing 75 A320 Family aircraft per month by 2027. The Airbus Tianjin Final Assembly Line, which opened in 2008, is Airbus' first commercial aircraft production line outside of Europe. To date, the facility has assembled and delivered over 780 A320 family aircraft, becoming a successful example of Sino-European cooperation. The expansion of the Tianjin industrial facility demonstrates Airbus' confidence in the booming Chinese aviation market and the resilience and stability of China's supply chain.

According to the Ministry of Commerce's official website, on October 21, Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao met with Airbus CEO Faury. The two sides exchanged views on Airbus' cooperation with China. Wang Wentao stated that the Chinese market has steadily expanded in recent years, becoming the world's second-largest consumer and import market. China will continue to promote Chinese-style modernization and develop new-quality productivity, which will provide broad development space for foreign-invested enterprises, including Airbus. He expressed hope that Airbus will take the opening of the second A320 final assembly line in Tianjin as an opportunity to further strengthen cooperation with China and provide more high-quality aviation products and services to China and the world. Wang Wentao emphasized that the global economy is currently experiencing increasing fragmentation, unilateralism and protectionism are impacting the international economic and trade order, and instability and uncertainty are significantly increasing. China will continue to leverage the role of the Foreign Enterprise Roundtable to actively promote the resolution of issues and concerns encountered by Airbus in its development and operations in China, and jointly maintain the stability of the global supply chain. Faury stated that Airbus has full confidence in the development of the Chinese economy and civil aviation industry, and that the opening of the second A320 final assembly line in Tianjin provides favorable conditions for Airbus to strengthen its cooperation with China. Airbus is willing to continue to deepen its presence in the Chinese market and contribute to promoting China-France and China-Europe economic and trade cooperation.
