Nintendo won't use generative AI in first-party games
Jul.8,2024

Asia Tech Wire (July 8) -- Nintendo has confirmed that it has no plans to use generative AI in future game development, the company said in a recent Q&A with investors.

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said that while generative AI, which has been getting a lot of attention lately, enables more creative content, on the other hand, it has issues with intellectual property and other aspects.

"While we are able to react flexibly to technological developments, we want to continue to provide unique value that cannot be created by technology alone," Furukawa said.

Nintendo confirmed in May that it would announce its next-generation console this fiscal year, meaning a Switch successor will come out by the end of March 2025 at the latest.
