Meta removes over 400 Facebook accounts, pages groups ahead of Philippine elections

Asian Tech Press (Apr. 7) -- Mark Zuckerberg's Meta Platforms announced Wednesday it removed a network of over 400 accounts, Pages, and Groups in the Philippines ahead of the Asian country's 2022 general election.

Meta said in a statement to share an update on its work to help keep people safe and protect the integrity of the upcoming Philippine General election on May 9.

The company has activated an elections operation center for the 2022 Philippine general election to preventing election interference on Facebook.

To tackle emerging harms, Meta recently identified and removed a a network of Facebook Pages, groups and accounts maintained by the New People's Army (NPA), a banned terrorist organization, for violating its policies prohibiting groups that have a violent mission or are engaging in violence.

In addition, the company also removed a network of over 400 accounts, Pages, and Groups in the Philippines that worked together to systematically violate its community standards and evade enforcement.
