Asian Tech Press (Nov 01) -- According to Yonhap News Agency, South Korean telecommunications company KT held a briefing today on the network outage that occurred on Oct 25th, saying that users can get a reduction in their Internet tariffs for November without having to make an additional application.
KT said that the previous network outage lasted for about 89 minutes and that the type and extent of damage to customers varied and was challenging to confirm. Accordingly, individuals and companies will receive 15 hours of tariff reductions, and individual businesses will receive 10 days of tariff reductions.
KT said that compensation will be calculated based on the incoming lines, including duplicate lines. The total compensation for this incident will be 35 billion won to 40 billion won, covering 35 million lines.
KT also pointed out that the compensation standards stipulated in the company's articles of incorporation are outdated and need to be improved. The company will work with regulators and other operators to develop more advanced compensation standards in the future.
