Asian Tech Press (Mar. 1) -- South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor Group's subsidiary Kia Corp said it all-electric EV6 sedan has been awarded the 2022 European Car of the Year (ECOTY).
The Kia EV6 was named the 2022 European Car of the Year at a ceremony in Geneva on Monday after taking first place in a fierce battle against the likes of the Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric and the Hyundai Ioniq 5, according to the oldest and most renown car award's official website.
The Kia EV6, an innovative South Korean SUV, got 279 points and 12 individual top votes to beat out other strong rivals. Yonhap News Agency said that this is "the first time for a South Korean automobile brand to clinch the award."
Kia said it has sold 11,302 units of the EV6 as of the end of January since it first began selling the all-electric crossover in Europe in October last year.
