Asian Tech Press (SEP 14) -- Japanese industrial giant Hitachi Ltd. has set a new goal to reach net-zero emissions for its entire supply chain by fiscal year 2050.
According to Hitachi, the company's entire supply chain, including raw material procurement and product manufacturing, had about 72 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions in fiscal 2020. As a multinational conglomerate company, Hitachi has partnered with about 30,000 companies. Over 90% of the 72 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions came from beyond its corporate activities.
A growing number of companies worldwide are now committed to advancing carbon neutrality throughout their supply chains. Apple plans to achieve the goal by 2030. Major Japanese financial groups Sumitomo Mitsui and Mitsubishi UFJ plan to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
