South Korea’s Hyundai Motor plans to suspend production at its Ulsan No.1 plant in South Korea between April 5 and April 13 due to a chip shortage.
South Korean media pointed out that Hyundai’s Ulsan No.1 plant will suspend production due to problems on chip supply. The affected Ulsan plant produces 311,000 vehicles every year, including the Kona Electric and Ioniq 5 electric models.
Hyundai responded, “NO decision has been made regarding the reported suspension of production at Ulsan No.1 plant.”
The news underscores the severity of the global chip shortage. Until recently, Hyundai is one of the least affected automakers due to its prudent stockpile.
Last month it was reported that, unlike other car companies around the world, Hyundai still had a large stock of chips, thus largely avoiding the impact of chip shortage.
