Asian Tech Press (Sep 24) -- Japanese carmaker Honda Motor Co (NYSE: HMC) announced an agreement with Google on Friday to make Google's in-vehicle system Android Automotive OS available on new vehicles in 2022 and beyond.
Google's Automotive OS system will introduce more functions and features to drivers, including voice interaction and a redesign of the car's user interface. It can be run whether users operate through Google's Android Auto on their phones or directly through the car.
Honda has entered into a partnership with Google for the first time to incorporate the in-car system into new models produced in 2022 and beyond.
The automaker hopes to make its users easier to use their vehicles by introducing Google's voice assistant, navigation and in-car apps into its infotainment system.
Honda said it will first roll out these services in new models launching in North America in the second half of 2022, and will expand them globally in stages from there.
It is also reported that Google's Android Automotive OS will be used in GM's Chevrolet Silverado and Renault's Mégane E-TECH in the future.
Google officially launched Android Auto in 2015, allowing drivers to connect between their smartphones and the vehicle's stereo system to play music from the device, play navigation information and take calls through their in-car audio system.
