Asia Tech Wire (July 25) -- Chinese electric car maker BYD has received an order for 120 electric buses in South Africa.

BYD's South African unit reached a cooperation agreement with South African bus operator Golden Arrow on Tuesday on a deal for 120 electric buses.

The deal marks the birth of South Africa's first fleet of electric buses.

BYD said it will start delivery of the first batch of the electric buses in December this year and plans to complete all deliveries by the end of next year.

The 120 custom-built electric buses, which are 12.5 meters long and feature a 65-seat design, will join Golden Arrow's existing fleet of buses.
