Asian Tech Press (Nov 04) -- The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approved Boeing's satellite Internet project, first proposed in 2017.
With the project's approval, Boeing can now begin building its satellite infrastructure, starting with the deployment of 147 satellites. Of these, 132 satellites will be deployed in near-Earth orbit at an altitude of 1,056 kilometers, and 15 satellites will be deployed in "non-geostationary orbit" at altitudes of 27,355 to 44,221 kilometers.
The company said it hopes to use the satellites to provide broadband Internet and communications services to residential consumers, government and business users in the United States, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and plans to expand its satellite Internet service globally.
Boeing's satellite Internet service will be offered first to customers in the United States and then to customers worldwide.
