Nintendo to cut Switch output by 20% due to semiconductor shortage

Asian Tech Press (Nov 3) -- Japanese video game company Nintendo Co Ltd (7974:Tokyo) reportedly will cutt Switch production by 20% due to a global semiconductor shortage.

The production of the Nintendo Switch, its major game console, will be reduced by 20% to about 24 million units in fiscal 2021 (until March 2022) compared to the original plan, the Nikkei reported Tuesday.

The global chip crisis has led to a continuous shortage of semiconductors and other electronic parts, and it has caused Nintendo's goal of significantly increasing production of Switch consoles to be unachievable.

A Nintendo spokesperson told the media that they have been aware of the chip shortage and are assessing the "impact" on their production.
