Asia Tech Wire (Feb 29) -- China shipped 725,000 AR/VR headsets in 2023, down 39.8% year-on-year in 2022, according to an IDC report.

Among them, AR shipments amounted to 262,000 units, up 154.4% year-on-year, while VR shipments stood at 463,000 units, down 57.9% year-on-year.

For the full year of 2023, AR shipments accounted for 36.1% of AR/VR shipments in the Chinese market, a record high.

In particular, in the fourth quarter of 2023 the Chinese market shipped 118,000 units of AR headsets and 110,000 units of VR headsets.

Although some AR vendors have channel pressures though, this is the first time that AR shipments in the Chinese market exceeded VR shipments in a single quarter.
