Joe Biden, the 46th and current president of the United States.

Asian Tech Press (Nov 12) -- U.S. President Joe Biden signed legislation on Thursday to crack down on Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., ZTE Corp and other Chinese telecom and technology companies.

The U.S. government announced Thursday that President Biden signed the "Secure Equipment Act of 2021," requiring the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to no longer review or approve any authorization applications for equipment that "poses an unacceptable risk to national security."

Reuters reported that the bill, the latest tool used by the U.S. government to crack down on Chinese communications and technology companies, was approved by the U.S. House and Senate in October.

The report cites FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr as saying the commission has approved more than 3,000 applications from Huawei since 2018. But the bill is now law, and he says it "will help ensure that unsecured equipment from companies like Huawei and ZTE no longer access U.S. communications networks."
