WeRide founder responds to "autonomous driving replaces a large number of jobs": new positions already exist, job migration is gradual
In response to the question "If more and more transportation vehicles become self-driving, will a large number of jobs be replaced?", Han Xu, founder and CEO of WeRide, said that a key question that philosophers in the 21st century think about is the relationship between humans and machines, more specifically, the relationship between humans and artificial intelligence (AI). Many jobs that were once done by humans have gradually been replaced by machines. Looking back at history, this is not the first time. Programmable switches replaced human operators, washing machines replaced laundry workers, and mining has also adopted a large number of automated technologies. This is the migration or transformation of human jobs. I think we should invest more resources and efforts to create more friendly and pleasant jobs for people. In fact, such new jobs already exist, such as data annotation and elderly care. At the same time, such job migration is gradual. In fact, in many aging societies, the key problem is not employment, but the shortage of bus drivers and taxi drivers. Therefore, we hope to use self-driving technology to solve this problem. So we must master the rhythm of technology application. We don't want to see self-driving taxis replace all traditional taxis overnight. We don't want to do such a thing. I think a gradual strategy is a good choice. What we do is to gradually fill the gap between supply and demand.
