U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), working alongside several federal agencies, conducted a large-scale enforcement operation at a Hyundai Motor plant in Georgia, arresting 475 immigrants suspected of being in the state illegally and working there. The majority of them were South Korean nationals. The raid targeted one of Hyundai Motor's largest investment projects in the state: a $7.6 billion electric vehicle production facility and its battery plant under construction, temporarily halting construction. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security stated that the enforcement action was part of an "ongoing criminal investigation" into illegal employment and other serious federal crimes. South Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs dispatched personnel to the site and urged the United States to protect the legitimate rights and interests of South Korean citizens. Hyundai Motor and its partner LG Energy Solution stated that they are fully cooperating with the investigation.
