Toyota Motor Corp. will set up its first research and development center in India through its local subsidiary, according to people familiar with the matter, indicating the growing importance of the market. The new R&D facility will start operations in Bengaluru with a team of about 200 people near Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt.'s existing plant in Bidadi, one of the people said. The team could expand to about 1,000 engineers by 2027, the person said, asking not to be named as the details are confidential.
