U.S. President-elect Donald Trump met with TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew at Mar-a-Lago on Monday afternoon, according to multiple media reports.
Notably, this is the first meeting between the two sides since the end of this year's U.S. election and comes at a time when TikTok is facing a U.S. ban.
There are no further details about the meeting, and no one knows exactly what the two sides talked about.
Earlier on Monday, Trump hinted that he might take a different approach to TikTok.
Trump said, "We'll take a look at TikTok. You know, I have a warm spot in my heart for TikTok.
On the same day, TikTok announced that it had filed an emergency motion with the U.S. Supreme Court seeking to block a "sell-or-ban" bill.
TikTok and its Chinese parent company ByteDance are calling on the U.S. Supreme Court to rule on their request to delay the implementation of the bill by January 6 next year, a filing showed.
TikTok said the ban "results in a massive and unprecedented censorship of over 170 million Americans on January 19, 2025."
A few days ago, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit denied TikTok's request to stay the U.S. ban.
It's unclear whether Trump will change the law once he takes office on January 20 next year.
Trump tried to ban TikTok during his first term in office, but he shifted his tune during this year's presidential campaign, claiming that he would not seek to ban TikTok again.
