On May 15, TSMC Vice President of Operations Zhang Zongsheng said at its technical forum that TSMC built an average of 3 new factories per year from 2017 to 2020, and an average of 5 new factories per year from 2021 to 2024. This year, the pace will be further accelerated, and it is expected that 9 new factories will be built worldwide, including 8 wafer fabs and 1 advanced packaging factory. Zhang Zongsheng revealed that Wafer 20 in Hsinchu and Wafer 22 in Kaohsiung will be 2-nanometer mass production bases. Both factories will start construction in 2022 and are scheduled to start production this year. Wafer 25 in Taichung will begin construction at the end of this year and mass produce technology more advanced than 2 nanometers in 2028.
