SK Hynix's share of the global DRAM market surpassed Samsung Electronics for the first time in the first quarter of this year. According to market research firm Omdia, global DRAM sales in the first quarter totaled US$26.33 billion, down 9% from the previous quarter, due to falling DRAM contract prices and lower HBM shipments. Amid the overall market decline, SK Hynix's market share rose from 36% in the fourth quarter of last year to 36.9% in the first quarter of this year, surpassing Samsung Electronics, whose market share fell from 38.6% to 34.4%. In terms of sales, SK Hynix's sales in the first quarter were US$9.72 billion, while Samsung Electronics' sales were US$9.1 billion. This is the first time SK Hynix has taken the top spot since Samsung Electronics became the world's largest DRAM producer in 1992.
