Jensen Huang admits he made a mistake in predicting quantum computing timeline
His previous remarks about the timetable for the development of quantum computing were wrong. He said earlier this year that usable quantum computers would take at least 20 years to appear. This remark caused controversy, caused the stock prices of quantum computing companies such as Rigetti Computing and IonQ to fall, and also attracted rebuttals from industry insiders. At the "Quantum Day" event of Nvidia's GTC developer conference, Huang Renxun admitted his mistake in front of a live audience including representatives of 12 quantum companies. His previous remarks seemed to belittle the development of quantum computers. Huang Renxun's change of heart may be related to Nvidia's business. Much of the research on quantum computers is done through simulators on powerful computers, and Nvidia is a seller and chip supplier of such computers. Nvidia announced earlier this week that it plans to establish a research center in Boston to allow quantum companies to collaborate with researchers at Harvard University and MIT.
